Description

4,4-Diaminodiphenylmethane (CAS 101-77-9 ), commercially known as MDA, is an aromatic diamine used as a curing agent and polymer building block across rubber, coatings, and adhesive manufacturing. Its two reactive amine groups enable controlled cross-linking and chain extension in high-performance polymer systems. In polyurethane and epoxy formulations, MDA functions as a hardener. This process produces cured systems with elevated thermal and mechanical resistance suitable for industrial coatings and structural adhesives. Rubber compounders use it as an antioxidant and cross-linking agent. It is frequently utilized in tire components and elastomeric seals where long-term heat stability is required. In polyurea and polyamide synthesis, MDA serves as a diamine monomer. This contributes to the backbone of engineering polymers used in films, fibers, and molded parts. Textile and leather processing operations also apply MDA-derived intermediates in dye chemistry. In these applications, it acts as a precursor to azo colorants for fiber dyeing. MDA is supplied as a solid, typically off-white to tan flakes or pastilles, and in molten form for bulk delivery. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with purity levels commonly at 99% or above. Packaging ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk containers depending on volume requirements.
