Description

Dimethyldicyane (CAS 6864-37-5 ), commercially known as DMDC, is an aliphatic diamine used as a curing agent and cross-linking component in polymer systems. Its cycloaliphatic structure delivers cured materials with strong UV stability and optical clarity, properties that determine suitability across coating and adhesive applications. In epoxy coatings, DMDC produces systems with excellent weathering resistance, making it a preferred curative for exterior architectural and industrial maintenance finishes. Color and gloss retention are critical in these applications. Adhesive and sealant formulators use it to achieve flexible, durable bonds in structural assemblies. This is particularly useful where thermal cycling performance is a specification requirement. Polyurea and polyurethane elastomer producers incorporate DMDC to control reaction rates. It improves the mechanical profile of cast or sprayed elastomeric components. In the construction sector, it is used in flooring systems and protective coatings. These applications require long pot life and low yellowing under UV exposure. DMDC is supplied as a liquid at ambient conditions and is available in standard packaging formats. Technical-grade material is the primary commercial offering, with purity specifications typically confirmed by amine value and GC analysis for industrial supply chains.
