Description
Trimethylhexamethylenediamine (CAS 25513-64-8 ), commonly known as TMD, is an aliphatic diamine used as a reactive building block in polymer synthesis and curing systems. It functions as a crosslinker and chain extender, enabling formulators to tune the flexibility, durability, and chemical resistance of finished polymer networks in various applications. In epoxy coating systems, TMD acts as a curing agent that produces films with enhanced flexibility compared to rigid aromatic amine alternatives, which is a key advantage for protective coatings. Polyamide and polyurea synthesis rely on TMD as a monomer to introduce branching that modifies crystallinity and improves low-temperature performance in demanding industrial environments. In adhesive and sealant formulations, it crosslinks polyurethane and epoxy matrices where elongation and impact resistance are critical end-use requirements for the final product. Metalworking fluids incorporate TMD for its corrosion inhibition function, protecting ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces during machining and storage processes.
