Description

4-tert-Butylphenol (CAS 98-54-4 ), commonly abbreviated as PTBP, is an alkylphenol intermediate used across resin synthesis, fragrance manufacturing, and polymer stabilization. It functions primarily as a chain-stopping agent in phenolic resin production. This chemical serves as a building block for UV absorbers and antioxidants. PTBP is a key monomer in the production of para-tert-butylphenol-formaldehyde resins, which are used as tackifiers in neoprene-based contact adhesives. These resins also act as bonding agents for rubber and leather. In coatings and lubricant additive manufacturing, it serves as a precursor to antioxidants and extreme-pressure additive packages for industrial use. Fragrance compounders use PTBP (FEMA 3918 ) as a phenolic modifier to impart leather, floral, and animalic nuances. It is utilized in both fine fragrance and functional fragrance applications globally. In UV stabilizer production, it acts as a starting material for benzophenone-type absorbers used in plastics and personal care formulations. This versatility makes it a staple in the specialty chemical sector. 4-tert-Butylphenol is supplied as white to off-white flakes or molten liquid for bulk shipment. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with purity typically at 99% minimum for industrial needs. Packaging options generally include bags, drums, and isotanks for molten material. The material is handled according to strict safety protocols to ensure quality and stability during long-term storage and transport. Contact us for supply of 4-tert-butylphenol Request Quote
