Description

Tert-butyl hydroperoxide (CAS 75-91-2 ), commonly abbreviated as TBHP, is an organic peroxide used industrially as a radical source for initiating polymerization and driving oxidation reactions. Its controlled reactivity makes it a preferred alternative to inorganic peroxides where selectivity and handling convenience matter. In plastics manufacturing, it initiates free-radical polymerization and crosslinking. This chemical is essential in the production of acrylics, polyethylene, and rubber compounds. Lubricant formulators use it as an oxidation catalyst to modify base oils and synthesize sulfoxide or epoxide intermediates. In biotechnology and life sciences, it serves as a reference oxidant in cellular stress assays and enzyme activity studies. It is used where reproducible oxidative challenge is required for research. It also functions as a bleaching agent in textile and pulp processing. This application is ideal where peroxide-based whitening must be applied under mild conditions to protect the substrate integrity. The product is supplied as an aqueous solution, most commonly at 70% concentration. Anhydrous and higher-concentration grades are available for specific industrial applications requiring low water content. Technical grade is the standard for polymer and lubricant applications. Handling and storage specifications vary by concentration, and buyers typically source it in drums or IBC containers for bulk use. Contact us for supply of tert-butyl hydroperoxide Request Quote
