Description

Guaiacol (CAS 90-05-1 ), also known commercially as 2-Methoxyphenol, is a naturally derived phenolic compound obtained from wood creosote and lignin distillation. In industry, it functions as a flavoring agent and fragrance intermediate. It also serves as a pharmaceutical precursor across multiple manufacturing sectors. In food and flavor production, it delivers the characteristic smoky, woody note found in smoked meats, whiskeys, and specialty flavor blends. The compound carries FEMA 2532 status for use as an approved flavoring substance. Fragrance formulators use it as a building block for creating leather, tobacco, and phenolic accords in fine fragrance products. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it serves as a key starting material for synthesizing expectorants and other active pharmaceutical ingredients. Antioxidant and preservative applications also draw on its phenolic activity. This activity helps to stabilize formulations against oxidative degradation. The product is supplied as a colorless to pale yellow liquid at ambient conditions, with solidification occurring near room temperature. Standard commercial grades include food-grade material meeting FCC specifications. Pharmaceutical-grade material is also available, conforming to USP or BP standards for high-purity applications. Technical-grade product is available for industrial synthesis and fragrance intermediate use. This versatile chemical remains a staple for manufacturers requiring consistent quality and reliable performance in diverse formulations. Contact us for supply of Guaiacol Request Quote
