Description

Potassium stannate (CAS 12142-33-5 ), also known as dipotassium stannate, is an inorganic tin salt used primarily as a source of stannate ions in electroplating baths and surface treatment processes. It enables controlled tin deposition on metal substrates, delivering corrosion-resistant and solderable coatings across several industrial sectors. In electronics manufacturing, it is used in alkaline tin plating baths. This chemical helps to produce uniform, adherent tin coatings on printed circuit board components and connector parts. Textile processors apply it as a mordant and weighting agent for silk and synthetic fabrics. These applications help in improving handle and dye uptake during the manufacturing process. In the leather industry, it functions as a surface modifier to enhance adhesion of finishing coats. Plastics compounders have also evaluated it as a stabilizer additive in select polymer systems where tin-based chemistry is required. It is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder or granular solid. It is available in technical grade for industrial electroplating and surface treatment applications. Packaging typically ranges from kilogram-scale laboratory quantities to bulk industrial quantities. The product is handled according to strict industrial protocols, with purity specifications commonly stated on a dry-weight basis to ensure consistency for high-precision manufacturing and chemical synthesis.
