Description

Stannous octoate (CAS 301-10-0 ), also known as stannous 2-ethylhexanoate, is an organotin compound used as a catalyst across polyurethane, silicone, and polymer manufacturing. It accelerates curing and polymerization reactions, enabling controlled chain growth and cross-linking in industrial production processes. In polyurethane foam and elastomer manufacturing, it catalyzes the reaction between polyols and isocyanates. This material controls gel time and cell structure in both flexible and rigid foam systems. Silicone rubber producers rely on it to cure RTV formulations, where reaction rate and final mechanical properties depend on catalyst selection. In polylactic acid (PLA) and other biodegradable polymer synthesis, it initiates ring-opening polymerization of lactide monomers. This makes it a standard catalyst choice for modern bioplastics production and development. Coatings and sealant formulators use it to tune pot life and through-cure speed in moisture-cure and two-component systems. It is supplied as a pale yellow to amber liquid, typically at concentrations of 95% and above. It is available in technical grade , with purity and tin content specified as primary quality parameters.
