Description

DMDM hydantoin (CAS 6440-58-0 ), also marketed under the trade name Glydant, is a formaldehyde-releasing preservative used to prevent microbial contamination in aqueous formulations. DMDMH delivers broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria, yeast, and mold across a wide range of product types. In personal care and cosmetics, it is used to preserve rinse-off and leave-on products. This includes shampoos, conditioners, body washes, and lotions, where water activity creates high microbial risk. Industrial coating and adhesive formulations rely on it as an in-can preservative to extend shelf life. It prevents spoilage during storage and transport for water-based paints, sealants, and latex systems. These systems incorporate DMDMH to protect against bacterial and fungal degradation that would compromise viscosity. It is also used in wet-state preservation of adhesive and elastomer compounds where conventional biocides lack sufficient water compatibility. This ensures long-term stability in complex chemical mixtures. DMDM hydantoin is supplied as a clear aqueous solution, typically at 55% active concentration. It is available in cosmetic-grade and technical-grade specifications to meet the requirements of various applications. Packaging options generally range from drums to intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) for industrial volumes. Our material meets rigorous quality benchmarks to ensure consistent performance in every batch. Contact us for supply of DMDM hydantoin Request Quote
