Description

Isophorone diamine (CAS 2855-13-2 ), commonly known as IPDA, is a cycloaliphatic diamine used as a curing agent and building block in high-performance polymer systems. Its low reactivity at ambient temperatures combined with rapid cure at elevated temperatures makes it a controlled, reliable hardener for demanding formulations across various industries. In epoxy coatings for automotive and aerospace substrates, IPDA delivers cured films with strong UV stability and chemical resistance, which is critical for exterior and underbody protection. Structural adhesives and sealants in construction and transportation rely on IPDA-cured systems where flexibility and long-term durability under mechanical stress are required for safety. As a monomer in polyurea and polyurethane synthesis, IPDA contributes to elastomers and casting compounds used in industrial flooring, protective linings, and electronic encapsulation. Printing and packaging applications use IPDA-based systems in laminating adhesives where low yellowing and adhesion to film substrates are key selection criteria for manufacturers. IPDA is supplied as a clear to slightly yellowish liquid in standard drum and IBC packaging. Technical and industrial grades are the primary commercial forms available for purchase. Purity is typically specified at 99% or higher. Some suppliers offer low-color or low-viscosity variants tailored for coating and adhesive formulations with strict appearance requirements.
