Butylated Hydroxyanisole ( CAS 25013-16-5 ), commonly known as BHA or E320 , is a synthetic phenolic antioxidant used across food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications. It prevents oxidative degradation in fats, oils, and lipid-containing formulations, extending shelf life and maintaining product integrity. In food manufacturing, BHA is approved under E320 and FEMA 2183 . It is used in edible fats, oils, snack foods, and packaging materials where fat oxidation is a primary spoilage concern.
