Description

Octadecyl di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate (CAS 2082-79-3 ), commercially recognized as Antioxidant 1076 and approved as E376 , is a hindered phenolic antioxidant used to protect organic substrates from oxidative degradation. It functions by scavenging free radicals generated by heat and oxygen exposure, extending the functional life of polymers, lubricants, and formulated products during processing and long-term service. In plastics and polymer processing, this antioxidant is incorporated into polyolefins, PVC, and engineering resins to prevent thermal degradation during extrusion and injection molding processes. Lubricant formulators use it to stabilize mineral and synthetic base oils against oxidation, maintaining viscosity performance in automotive and industrial gear oils and other mechanical systems. In personal care, this additive is approved for use in cosmetic formulations including creams and lotions where oxidative stability of oils and emollients is a critical formulation requirement. Adhesive and sealant manufacturers incorporate it to protect rubber-based and hot-melt systems from premature aging during storage and application, ensuring long-term bond strength and integrity. The chemical is supplied as a white to off-white powder or waxy solid. Standard commercial grades include technical, food-grade, and cosmetic-grade specifications, with purity typically at 98% or higher. It is available in both small packaging and bulk quantities to suit compounding and industrial formulation requirements, meeting various global regulatory and safety standards for industrial use.
