Description

Potassium tetrafluoroborate (CAS 14075-53-7 ), also known as potassium fluoborate and abbreviated KBF4, is an inorganic fluoroborate salt used across metallurgy, electronics, and surface treatment industries. It functions primarily as a flux agent, grain refiner, and controlled fluoride source in high-temperature processing applications. In aluminum and magnesium casting, KBF4 acts as a grain-refining additive. This improves the mechanical properties of finished metal components. Electronics manufacturers use it as a flux component in soldering pastes and brazing alloys, where controlled fluoride release aids oxide removal. In abrasives production, it is incorporated into grinding wheels and coated abrasives as an active filler. This reduces heat buildup and extends tool life during intensive metalworking operations. Surface treatment and electroplating operations also draw on potassium fluoroborate as a fluoride donor. It is used in bath formulations for metal finishing processes to ensure high-quality results. Potassium tetrafluoroborate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or fine granules. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity levels typically ranging from 98% to 99%+. High-purity grades are available for electronics and specialty metallurgical applications. Consistent fluoride content and low impurity profiles are critical to process control in these sectors.
