Description
Cresol (CAS 1319-77-3 ), also known as methylphenol, is a mixture of ortho-, meta-, and para-isomers derived from coal tar or petroleum refining. It functions as a high-boiling solvent, disinfectant, and chemical intermediate across a broad range of industrial manufacturing processes. In coatings and resin manufacturing, cresol dissolves epoxy, phenolic, and wire enamel resins where lower-boiling solvents lack sufficient solvency power. Pharmaceutical and veterinary disinfectant formulations rely on its biocidal activity against bacteria and fungi. This material is particularly effective in industrial cleaning concentrates and hard-surface sanitizers. Polymer producers use cresol as a reaction solvent and chain-stopper in the synthesis of polysulfones, polyimides, and specialty engineering resins. Adhesive and sealant formulators also incorporate it as a stabilizer to inhibit oxidative degradation during processing and storage. Cresol is supplied as a liquid in mixed isomer form, with meta/para blends being the most commercially prevalent grade. Technical grade is the standard offering for industrial solvent and synthesis applications. Drum, IBC, and bulk tanker quantities are typical supply formats for industrial procurement. This versatile chemical ensures stability and performance in demanding environments. Contact us for supply of Cresol Request Quote
