Description

Dibenzoylthiazyl disulfide ( CAS 120-78-5 ), commercially known as MBTS or Accelerator DM, is a sulfur-based vulcanization accelerator used in rubber processing. It controls cure rate and crosslink density during vulcanization, enabling consistent mechanical performance. MBTS is a primary accelerator in sulfur vulcanization of natural and synthetic rubbers, including SBR, NBR, and EPDM. It delivers a delayed-action cure suitable for thick-section molded parts and industrial components. In tire manufacturing, it is used in tread and sidewall compounds to balance processing safety with cure efficiency. This ensures the rubber maintains structural integrity while preventing premature vulcanization during the mixing phase. It also functions as a secondary accelerator in combination systems, typically paired with thiurams or guanidines. This allows manufacturers to fine-tune scorch time and modulus in technical rubber articles such as seals and gaskets. The chemical is essential for producing high-performance hoses and other industrial rubber goods. Some industrial formulations use MBTS as a biocide or preservation agent in latex systems to inhibit microbial degradation during storage. MBTS is supplied as a pale yellow powder or as pre-dispersed granules and masterbatch forms. These formats are suited for automated dosing in rubber compounding lines to ensure precision and safety in the workplace. Standard commercial grades meet technical rubber industry specifications, with purity typically stated at 95% or higher. It is available in both bulk and packaged formats to support large-scale compounding operations worldwide. Contact us for supply of Dibenzoylthiazyl disulfide Request Quote
