Description

Zinc mercaptobenzothiazole ( CAS 155-04-4 ), commonly abbreviated as ZMBT and also marketed under the trade name Bantex, is an organozinc compound used as a primary accelerator and stabilizer in rubber vulcanization. It delivers controlled cure rates and oxidative protection across a broad range of elastomer systems. In rubber compounding, ZMBT accelerates sulfur vulcanization in natural and synthetic rubbers, including NR, SBR, and NBR. This chemical produces consistent cure profiles suited to mechanical goods, seals, and gaskets. Tire manufacturers incorporate it into tread and sidewall compounds where predictable scorch safety and aging resistance are critical. In plastics processing, it functions as a stabilizer to inhibit thermal degradation during extrusion and molding of polymer components. It also sees use as a secondary accelerator in latex systems. The compound improves crosslink density in dipped goods and coated fabrics. ZMBT is supplied as a fine off-white to pale yellow powder. Standard commercial grades include technical-grade material meeting industry specifications. Purity levels are typically at 95% or above for standard applications. It is available in bulk bags and smaller packaged units to suit both large-scale compounders and specialty formulators for various industrial needs.
