Description

Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate (CAS 10213-79-3 ), also known as disodium metasilicate pentahydrate, is an alkaline silicate salt supplied in a stable, water-soluble crystalline form. It functions as a builder, binder, and alkalinity source across industrial cleaning, surface treatment, and construction applications. In industrial and institutional cleaning formulations, it boosts detergency. The compound emulsifies oils and provides the high pH needed to break down grease on metal and hard surfaces. Textile and paper processors use it as a scouring and desizing aid for production. Its buffering capacity controls bath alkalinity throughout wet processing stages. In construction and coatings, it acts as a binder and adhesion promoter in cement-based products and refractory coatings. It is also utilized in silicate paints and water treatment operations as a corrosion inhibitor. It forms a protective silicate film on metal pipe surfaces to reduce scaling and metal leaching. Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate is supplied as white granules or powder. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity typically specified at 97% or higher for industrial use. Bulk supply in bags or big bags is standard for industrial buyers. Some suppliers offer technical-grade material meeting specific silica-to-alkali ratio requirements for specialized manufacturing.
