Description

Tungstic acid (CAS 7783-03-1 ), also referenced as H2WO4, is an inorganic tungsten compound used primarily as a catalyst and catalyst precursor in industrial chemical processing. It serves as a key entry point for producing tungsten-based catalysts and downstream tungsten compounds across metallurgical and chemical manufacturing operations. In catalyst manufacturing, tungstic acid is processed into supported tungsten oxide catalysts used in petroleum refining and hydrocracking units for various industrial applications. Tungsten metal powder and tungsten trioxide production rely on tungstic acid as a controlled-purity precursor, feeding directly into powder metallurgy and hard metal supply chains. It also functions as an intermediate in preparing ammonium paratungstate (APT), one of the primary traded forms of tungsten in global commodity markets today. Specialty chemical producers use it to synthesize heteropolyacid catalysts applied in oxidation and acid-catalyzed organic reactions within the fine chemicals sector. Tungstic acid is supplied as a yellow powder in technical and reagent grades. Purity specifications typically range from 99% upward for catalyst and precursor applications. Moisture content and tungsten oxide assay are standard quality parameters. Packaging is available in multi-kilogram bags through to bulk quantities depending on grade.
