Description

Isobornyl methacrylate (CAS 7534-94-3 ), commercially known as IBOMA and supplied under trade names such as Ageflex IBOMA and NK Ester IB, is a specialty acrylic monomer used to modify the performance characteristics of UV-curable and thermoplastic polymer systems. Its primary function is to adjust hardness, adhesion, and shrinkage in polymerizable formulations without compromising cure speed or film integrity. In UV-curable inks and coatings for printing and packaging, IBOMA acts as a reactive diluent that reduces viscosity. This monomer contributes to a hard, scratch-resistant surface after cure. Nail gel and UV-cured cosmetic coating formulators incorporate it to achieve durable, high-gloss films with controlled flexibility. In adhesive and sealant systems, it improves substrate adhesion. It also raises the glass transition temperature of the cured polymer. Optical and electronic component manufacturers use IBOMA in specialty resins where dimensional stability and low shrinkage during polymerization are critical for high-performance applications. Isobornyl methacrylate is supplied as a clear to slightly yellow liquid, typically with an inhibitor added for storage stability. Standard commercial grades are available for industrial and specialty coating applications with high purity levels. Purity specifications are commonly at 98% or higher for most industrial uses. It is offered in drum and IBC quantities, with bulk tanker supply available from major producers to meet large-scale manufacturing requirements across various sectors.
