Description

Cerium octoate (CAS 7435-02-1 ), also supplied under the trade name Tib Kat 812, is a cerium-based metal carboxylate used as a drier, catalyst, and stabilizer in industrial formulations. It promotes oxidative crosslinking and polymer curing, reducing process times in coating and resin systems. In alkyd and air-drying coatings, it functions as a through-drying drier. This material improves film hardness and reduces surface wrinkling compared to conventional cobalt-based systems. Printing ink formulators use it to accelerate oxidative drying in oil-based inks. This support for faster press speeds and cleaner print definition is essential for high-volume production. In polymer and elastomer compounding, it acts as a crosslinking catalyst and thermal stabilizer. It extends service life in rubber and sealant formulations. Mining and metals processing applications include its use as a catalyst precursor in hydrocarbon processing and surface treatment chemistries. Cerium octoate is supplied as a liquid solution, typically in mineral spirits or aliphatic hydrocarbon carriers. The cerium metal content varies by grade to meet specific industrial requirements. Technical-grade material is the standard commercial form, with cerium concentration commonly specified as a percentage of active metal. Drum and IBC packaging is typical for industrial volumes.
