Description
Lead(2+) octanoate ( CAS 7319-86-0 ), commercially known as lead octoate, is an organolead carboxylate used as a metal catalyst and drier in industrial processing. It delivers controlled reactivity in curing, cross-linking, and polymerization systems where precise metal coordination is required. In plastics and polymer manufacturing, lead octoate functions as a stabilizer and catalyst precursor in PVC compounding and resin cure systems. The rubber and tire industry uses it as a vulcanization accelerator and cross-linking agent. It promotes sulfur-based cure networks in technical rubber compounds. In lubricant and metalworking formulations, it acts as an extreme-pressure additive precursor and boundary lubrication component in grease and cutting fluid systems. It also serves as a drier catalyst in alkyd-based industrial coatings, accelerating oxidative cure of oil-modified resin films. Lead octoate is supplied as a liquid solution, with the 36% concentration being the most recognized commercial grade. This material is available in technical grade, suitable for catalyst and industrial processing applications.
