Description

Phosphonobutane tricarboxylic acid ( CAS 37971-36-1 ), commonly abbreviated as PBTC, is a phosphonate-based organic acid used across water treatment and industrial process chemistry. It functions primarily as a scale inhibitor, corrosion inhibitor, and chelating agent. This chemical is essential for controlling mineral deposits and metal ion activity in aqueous systems. In industrial water treatment, including cooling water circuits and boiler systems, PBTC inhibits calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate scale formation. It is also effective against calcium phosphate scale at low dosage rates. Its chelating capacity makes it effective in textile processing, where it sequesters hardness ions during dyeing and bleaching to prevent interference with colorants. In construction chemical formulations, PBTC acts as a retarder and dispersant in cement and gypsum-based systems. This improves workability and set control, while personal care formulators use it to stabilize products against metal-induced degradation. The compound is also utilized to buffer pH in aqueous product systems across various manufacturing sectors. PBTC is supplied as an aqueous solution, most commonly at fifty percent active content for industrial applications. Technical grade is the standard market offering, with purity and concentration verified by titration or ICP methods. Bulk liquid supply in IBC containers or tankers is typical for industrial procurement volumes and logistics. Contact us for supply of Phosphonobutane tricarboxylic acid Request Quote
