Description

N-Acetylcaprolactam (CAS 1888-91-1 ) is a cyclic amide derivative used primarily as an activator and initiator in anionic polymerization processes. In polymer manufacturing, it accelerates the conversion of caprolactam monomer into nylon. This chemical enables faster and more controlled production cycles for industrial manufacturers. Its primary industrial role is as an activator in the anionic ring-opening polymerization of caprolactam to produce polyamide 6 (PA6). It is particularly useful in reaction injection molding and cast nylon processes where rapid polymerization at moderate temperatures is required. In textile fiber production, it supports the manufacture of PA6 yarns and technical fibers. Tight molecular weight control directly affects end-product performance in these applications. Leather finishing and paper treatment formulations use polyamide intermediates derived from activated polymerization systems where this compound contributes to quality. It also functions as a building block in specialty heterocyclic synthesis for research-scale and fine chemical applications. The material is supplied as a liquid at ambient conditions, typically in drum and IBC quantities. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with purity levels commonly at 98% or higher. Packaging options generally scale from laboratory quantities through bulk supply to support both R&D and production-scale sourcing. Contact us for supply of n-acetylcaprolactam Request Quote
