Sodium percarbonate (CAS 15630-89-4 ), also known by the abbreviation SPC, is an adduct of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide that releases active oxygen upon dissolution in water. It functions as a solid, free-flowing oxygen bleach and oxidizing agent across cleaning, textile, and water treatment applications. In laundry and household cleaning formulations, SPC delivers bleaching performance. It serves as a direct alternative to liquid hydrogen peroxide, with the handling advantage of a dry solid. Textile processors use it to bleach natural fibers such as cotton and linen without fiber degradation. This avoids the issues associated with chlorine-based systems. Water treatment operations apply it as a biocide and oxidant to control biofilm, algae, and organic contaminants in municipal and industrial systems. In personal care, it is incorporated into tooth-whitening powders and effervescent bath products where controlled oxygen release is the functional mechanism. It is supplied as a white, free-flowing granular powder. The product typically features an active oxygen content of around 13–14% or expressed as 30% equivalent hydrogen peroxide. Standard commercial grades include technical and detergent grades for various uses. Coated variants are available to improve storage stability and moisture resistance in finished formulations.
