Calcium peroxide
Description
Calcium peroxide (CAS 1305-79-9 ), also known commercially as Calper or calcium dioxide, is a solid oxidizing agent that releases oxygen slowly in the presence of moisture. This controlled oxygen release makes it functional across food processing, soil remediation, and industrial treatment applications. In food production, it conditions dough by strengthening gluten networks. This process improves the machinability and volume of baked goods. Soil and groundwater remediation projects use it as an in-situ oxygen source to stimulate aerobic biodegradation of organic contaminants. In water treatment, it acts as a biocide and oxidant to control microbial growth and reduce biological oxygen demand in effluent streams. Textile and paper processors apply it as a bleaching agent. This allows for whitening fibers and pulp without the process complexity of chlorine-based systems. Calcium peroxide is supplied as a white to off-white powder or granule for various uses. The active oxygen content typically ranges from 60% to 75% depending on grade. Food-grade material is available to FCC specification for dough conditioning applications. Technical grades serve agricultural, remediation, and industrial end uses where food compliance is not required. This versatile chemical provides reliable performance across multiple sectors.
