Description

Zinc acrylate ( CAS 14643-87-9 ), also known as zinc diacrylate or ZDA, is a bifunctional monomer used as a crosslinking agent in polymer and elastomer systems. It introduces ionic and covalent crosslinks into polymer networks, improving mechanical strength, resilience, and heat resistance in finished materials for industrial use. In rubber compounding, ZDA is incorporated into peroxide-cured elastomers, particularly nitrile and EPDM rubbers, to significantly increase tensile strength and hardness. This process occurs without requiring additional fillers. Golf ball cores represent one of the highest-volume end uses, where ZDA crosslinks polybutadiene to deliver energy return. Coatings and UV-curable systems use ZDA as a reactive diluent and crosslinker, improving film hardness and adhesion to metal or plastic substrates in various settings. In adhesive and sealant formulations, it functions as a rheology modifier and network-forming agent, contributing to cohesive strength in demanding structural applications. Zinc acrylate is supplied as a white powder. It is available in technical and polymer grades, with particle size and purity specifications varying by application requirements. Finer grades are preferred for rubber compounding to ensure uniform dispersion. Stabilized grades with inhibitor packages are offered for storage stability during transport.
