Description

Zinc acetylacetonate (CAS 14024-63-6 ), commonly abbreviated as Zn(acac)2, is an organozinc coordination compound used industrially as a catalyst, crosslinker, and curing agent. It functions by delivering reactive zinc in a thermally activatable, organically soluble form. This enables controlled reactivity in polymer and coating systems where inorganic zinc salts are incompatible. In coatings and adhesives, Zn(acac)2 acts as a latent crosslinking agent for resin systems. It improves film hardness, adhesion, and chemical resistance without premature gelation during processing. Polymer formulators use it as a catalyst precursor in the production of polyesters, polyurethanes, and specialty elastomers. It is ideal for applications where precise cure initiation is required. In plastics, it functions as a stabilizer and processing aid, particularly in PVC and other halogenated polymer systems. It helps maintain structural integrity during high-temperature manufacturing. Personal care formulators incorporate it at low concentrations for its zinc-delivery and astringent functionality. It is often found in skin-conditioning and antimicrobial product lines. Zinc acetylacetonate is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. Standard commercial grades include technical and high-purity specifications for various industrial needs. Anhydrous and monohydrate forms are available depending on application sensitivity. Packaging ranges from kilogram-scale laboratory quantities to bulk industrial supply for large operations.
