Description

Dimethyl isophthalate ( CAS 1459-93-4 ), commonly abbreviated as DMIP, is a diester monomer used as a reactive building block in the synthesis of high-performance polyesters, polyurethanes, and specialty resins. It introduces meta-oriented ester linkages into polymer backbones, improving flexibility, thermal stability, and compatibility with downstream formulation requirements for industrial applications. In coatings and powder coatings, DMIP is incorporated into polyester resin synthesis to balance hardness and flexibility in the final film. Adhesive and sealant formulators use it as a co-monomer. This helps to tune the mechanical properties of polyester-based systems, particularly where elongation and adhesion need to be controlled. In engineering plastics and fiber production, DMIP modifies crystallinity. It alters processing behavior in copolyester systems, offering an alternative to terephthalate-based monomers where amorphous or lower-melting profiles are required for specific manufacturing needs. It also functions as a plasticizer intermediate in specialty elastomer compounding. Dimethyl isophthalate is supplied as a white crystalline solid or flake for easy handling in production environments. Technical and industrial grades are the standard commercial forms, with purity levels typically at 99% or higher. Packaging is available in bags and drums suited to bulk polymer and resin manufacturing. Contact us for supply of Dimethyl isophthalate Request Quote
