Description

Trimethyl orthoacetate ( CAS 1445-45-0 ), also known as 1,1,1-trimethoxyethane and abbreviated as TMOA, is an orthoacid ester used as a reactive intermediate and protecting group reagent in organic synthesis. In flavor chemistry, it functions as a precursor and acidulant component in controlled-release formulation work. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, TMOA acts as an acetyl transfer agent and methoxylation reagent. This chemical enables selective protection of hydroxyl and carboxyl groups during multi-step API synthesis. Flavor formulators use it to generate acetic acid esters under mild acidic conditions for food applications. It provides controlled acidulant release in finished food and beverage applications. As a catalyst precursor, it participates in transesterification and condensation reactions where controlled hydrolysis is required. Its role in preservation-related formulations draws on its ability to release acetic acid derivatives gradually. This process extends active compound stability in the end product for industrial users. Trimethyl orthoacetate is supplied as a clear liquid, typically in purity grades of 97–99% for synthesis applications. Technical and reagent-grade specifications are the most commonly available formats. Pharmaceutical-grade material is offered by select suppliers to meet API manufacturing requirements. Packaging ranges from small laboratory quantities through to bulk drum supply for industrial users. Contact us for supply of Trimethyl orthoacetate Request Quote
