Pyridine-borane
Description
Pyridine-borane (CAS 110-51-0 ) is a stabilized borane complex that delivers controlled hydride-reducing activity under mild conditions. It functions as a selective reducing agent in synthetic chemistry. This reagent offers greater handling safety and solution stability than free borane reagents. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it reduces imines and iminium ions in reductive amination reactions. This is a critical step in producing active pharmaceutical ingredients and chiral intermediates. Electronics manufacturers use it in electroless plating baths and surface treatment processes. It is utilized where controlled boron deposition is required. Biotechnology researchers rely on it for reductive amination of biomolecules including proteins, peptides, and oligosaccharides. Selectivity and aqueous compatibility are priorities in these applications. It also serves synthetic chemistry workflows requiring mild reduction of aldehydes and ketones without over-reduction. This prevents the degradation of sensitive functional groups during the process. The product is supplied as a colorless to pale yellow liquid, typically in concentrations around 8 M in solution. It is available in research quantities through to multi-kilogram lots for process-scale use. Technical and high-purity grades are offered to meet synthetic and manufacturing requirements. Purity specifications are commonly at 97% or above. This ensures the material meets the rigorous standards necessary for pharmaceutical and industrial chemical production cycles.
