Divinyl is an older recognized synonym occasionally encountered in legacy technical literature. Its commercial significance lies almost entirely in large-scale polymerization processes. It forms the backbone of elastomers and copolymer resins consumed across multiple industries. BD is the principal monomer in the production of polybutadiene rubber (PBR) and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). Both of these materials are processed into automotive tires, conveyor belts, and mechanical seals. In plastics, it is copolymerized with acrylonitrile and styrene to produce ABS resin.
