Description

Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA, CAS 106-91-2 ), also known as 2,3-Epoxypropyl methacrylate, is a bifunctional reactive monomer combining an epoxide group with a methacrylate group in a single molecule. This dual reactivity allows it to participate in both free-radical polymerization and ring-opening crosslinking reactions, making it a valued building block for specialty polymer systems. GMA is primarily used in the production of functional acrylic copolymers for powder coatings, where its epoxide groups react with carboxylic acid curatives to deliver durable, high-gloss finishes. In adhesives and reactive hot melts, it introduces crosslinkable sites that improve bond strength and chemical resistance in the cured film. Formulators use it as a compatibilizer and reactive coupling agent. When blending immiscible polymers such as polyesters and polyolefins, it acts as a bridge. It also serves as a surface-functionalizing monomer in specialty coatings and grafting processes for textiles. This monomer is essential for packaging films where controlled surface chemistry is required. Glycidyl methacrylate is supplied as a clear liquid, typically with inhibitor added to prevent premature polymerization. Technical and industrial grades are the standard commercial offering, with purity levels commonly at 97% or higher. Bulk liquid and drum packaging are the typical supply formats for industrial buyers. Contact us for supply of Glycidyl methacrylate Request Quote
