Description

Hexahydrophthalic anhydride , commonly abbreviated as HHPA, is a cycloaliphatic anhydride used as a curing agent and reactive intermediate across epoxy and polyester systems. Its saturated ring structure makes it a preferred choice over aromatic anhydrides. This chemical, identified by CAS 85-42-7 , is valued where UV stability and color retention are procurement priorities. It is a primary hardener for epoxy resin systems in electrical encapsulation and casting compounds. In powder coatings, it delivers long pot life and controlled cure profiles. In alkyd and polyester resin synthesis, it functions as a monomer building block, contributing to resins used in industrial coatings and can coatings. Adhesive and sealant formulators use this material to tune flexibility and adhesion in structural bonding applications. It also appears as a reactive modifier in specialty plasticizer production for polymer matrices. Its cycloaliphatic backbone improves compatibility with PVC and other materials. The product is supplied as a low-melting solid or liquid, depending on isomer composition and temperature during the handling process. It is typically handled and shipped in molten form for industrial volumes. Standard commercial grades are available at high purity for resin and coating applications, ensuring consistent performance in manufacturing. Technical grade material is the predominant market form for industrial use. No food or pharmacopoeial grades like FCC , USP , Ph.Eur. , BP , EP , or ACS are standard for this specific product.
