Description

Nickel sulfate (CAS 7786-81-4 ), also sold as NiSO4, is an inorganic nickel salt primarily used as an electrolyte source in industrial electroplating and surface finishing operations. It delivers controlled nickel deposition onto metal substrates and serves as a precursor in catalyst manufacturing. In electroplating, it is the standard nickel source for decorative and functional coatings on automotive parts, electronics connectors, and hardware. Deposit quality and bath stability depend on consistent nickel ion concentration during the process. Battery manufacturers use it as a key precursor in synthesizing nickel-rich cathode materials for lithium-ion cells, particularly NMC and NCA chemistries. This application is critical for the production of high-capacity energy storage systems. In textile and leather processing, it acts as a mordant to fix dyes onto fiber substrates, improving color fastness in finished goods. This ensures that the pigments remain stable and vibrant throughout the lifecycle of the material. Mining operations use nickel sulfate solutions in hydrometallurgical refining to recover and purify nickel from ore concentrates. This chemical process is essential for obtaining high-purity metals from raw geological sources. Nickel sulfate is supplied as a crystalline solid in both hexahydrate and anhydrous forms, with the hexahydrate being the dominant commercial grade. Standard supply specifications include technical grade and electroplating grade. Purity levels typically range from 98% to 99.5% depending on the specific industrial requirement. Bulk quantities are available in bags or drums, with high-purity battery-grade material increasingly offered to meet EV supply chain requirements.
