Description

Triethyl citrate ( CAS 77-93-0 ), also known as TEC, Citroflex 2, and E1505 , is a citrate ester plasticizer and solvent derived from citric acid and ethanol. It functions as a plasticizer, film-forming aid, and flavor fixative across food-contact, cosmetic, and polymer applications. Low toxicity and regulatory acceptance are priorities for formulators and buyers using this material. In food packaging and biodegradable films, TEC plasticizes PLA and cellulose-based polymers, improving flexibility without compromising food-contact compliance. Personal care formulators use it as a film former and fixative in nail lacquers, hair sprays, and skin coatings. In these applications, it supports resin adhesion and controlled release for various cosmetic formulations. As a flavoring solvent under FEMA 3083 , it carries and stabilizes flavor compounds in confectionery, baked goods, and beverage applications. This versatility makes it a staple in the food and beverage industry. Pharmaceutical coating systems also rely on TEC to plasticize enteric and sustained-release film coatings on tablets and capsules. It ensures the integrity of the coating during the manufacturing and storage process. Triethyl citrate is supplied as a clear, low-viscosity liquid in drum and IBC quantities. Food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade material is available to FCC , USP , and Ph. Eur. specifications, supporting use across regulated end markets. Technical-grade material is also offered for industrial polymer and coating applications where food or pharma compliance is not required. This allows for cost-effective solutions in non-regulated industrial manufacturing sectors. Contact us for supply of Triethyl citrate Request Quote
