In unsaturated polyester resins, DCPD is incorporated to reduce styrene content, improve surface quality, and lower resin cost. This makes it a standard raw material for fiberglass composites used in automotive and construction panels. Hydrocarbon resin manufacturers use DCPD as a primary feedstock to produce C5/C9 resins applied in hot-melt adhesives, road-marking paints, and printing inks. These resins provide excellent tack and stability. In the coatings and ink industry, DCPD-based resins contribute to fast-drying, high-gloss formulations for publication and packaging printing. It also functions as a monomer in ring-opening metathesis polymerization.
