Description

Ammonia (CAS 7664-41-7 ), also supplied as anhydrous ammonia, is one of the highest-volume industrial chemicals in global trade. It functions primarily as a nitrogen source, alkalizing agent, and chemical intermediate across agriculture, manufacturing, and water treatment sectors. In agriculture, it is applied directly as a soil fertilizer and used as a feedstock for producing urea, ammonium nitrate, and other nitrogen-based fertilizers. Water treatment facilities use it to form chloramines during disinfection. This process provides longer-lasting residual protection in municipal distribution systems. Textile and pulp and paper operations rely on it for pH regulation during fiber processing, bleaching, and dyeing stages. In oil refining and gas processing, it neutralizes acidic byproducts in process streams, protecting equipment from corrosion and maintaining stable operating conditions. Ammonia is supplied as a compressed liquefied gas in cylinders. It is also available in ISO tanks and bulk pressurized vessels, with anhydrous grades being the most common commercial form. Aqueous ammonia solutions typically range from 25% to 30% concentration for various uses. These solutions are available for applications where handling liquefied gas is impractical. Grades include technical, industrial, and refrigeration-quality specifications, with purity levels and moisture content defined per application requirements.
