Neodecanoic acid (CAS 26896-20-8 ), also sold under the trade names Wiltz 65 and Topper 5E, is a highly branched C10 synthetic carboxylic acid used across coatings, lubricants, and polymer systems. Its branched structure drives performance in metal salt synthesis, surface treatment, and corrosion protection applications. In coatings, it is reacted with metal oxides to produce metal neodecanoates. These driers and catalysts are used in alkyd and industrial coating formulations. Lubricant and metalworking fluid manufacturers use it as a corrosion inhibitor and as a building block for synthetic ester base fluids.
