Description

2-(Acetoacetoxy)ethyl methacrylate (CAS 21282-97-3 ), commercially known as AAEM and supplied under trade names such as Eastman AAEM and LONZAMON AAEMA, is a functional monomer that introduces reactive acetoacetate groups into polymer backbones. These pendant groups enable post-polymerization crosslinking, metal chelation, and adhesion promotion across a broad range of coating and adhesive systems. In waterborne coatings, AAEM is incorporated into acrylic latex polymers. This enables ambient-temperature crosslinking with polyamines or dihydrazides, improving hardness, chemical resistance, and block resistance in architectural and industrial finishes. Adhesive formulators use it to enhance substrate adhesion. It also improves cohesive strength in pressure-sensitive and structural adhesive systems. In UV-curable formulations, the acetoacetate functionality participates in Michael addition reactions, allowing dual-cure systems that reduce shrinkage. These systems improve film flexibility while printing inks and packaging coatings benefit from its ability to improve ink adhesion to difficult substrates, including plastics and treated films. AAEM is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid. It is available in technical and industrial grades, with inhibited versions standard for storage stability during transport and handling. Bulk, drum, and intermediate bulk container packaging options are typical for industrial supply. Contact us for supply of 2-(acetoacetoxy)ethyl methacrylate Request Quote
