Description

Barium sulfide (CAS 21109-95-5 ), also known as barium sulphide and BaS, is an inorganic salt used industrially as a reducing and bleaching agent. It functions primarily as a precursor chemical and depilatory agent across several process-intensive industries. In leather processing, barium sulfide is applied as a hair-removal agent during the beamhouse stage, offering an alternative to sodium sulfide for dehairing hides. This application is critical for preparing raw materials for tanning. The mining and metals sector uses it in the production of other barium compounds and as a precipitant for removing sulfate ions from process streams. This ensures efficient chemical recovery and waste management in heavy industrial operations. Pulp and paper operations have historically employed it in bleaching and chemical recovery processes where strong reducing conditions are required. Its chemical properties allow for effective treatment of wood fibers during production. In textile processing, it supports desizing and preparation stages where sulfide-based chemistry is specified. This helps in achieving the desired texture and cleanliness of fabrics before they undergo further dyeing or finishing. Barium sulfide is supplied as a grey to off-white powder or granular solid. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity levels typically specified by active BaS content to meet industrial requirements. Packaging is commonly offered in multi-wall bags or drums suited to bulk industrial procurement. These storage solutions ensure the stability and safety of the chemical during transport and long-term warehouse storage. Contact us for supply of Barium sulfide Request Quote
