Description

Magnesium hexafluorosilicate (CAS 18972-56-0 ), also known as magnesium fluorosilicate, is an inorganic fluorosilicate salt used industrially as a surface hardening agent and biocidal preservative. It is applied to porous substrates to improve durability, resist biological degradation, and modify surface chemistry across construction, textile, and water treatment processes. In concrete and masonry treatment, it reacts with calcium hydroxide in cured cement to densify and harden surface layers, extending the service life of floors, pavements, and structural elements. Textile and leather processors use it as a fixing and preservation agent, improving resistance to microbial attack in treated fabrics and hides during various stages of production. In paper manufacturing, it functions as a surface modifier that improves wet strength and resistance to biological deterioration during storage or processing for industrial use. Water treatment operations employ it as a fluoridating and conditioning agent in specific municipal and industrial treatment programs to ensure proper chemical balance and safety. The product is supplied as a white crystalline powder or in aqueous solution, with solution concentrations typically ranging from 20% to 30% depending on the specific requirements. The product is available in Technical grade for standard commercial specification. Purity levels and packaging formats vary by application, with bulk supply available for large-scale procurement.
