Description

Sodium cyclamate (CAS 139-05-9 ), also marketed as Sucaryl sodium and designated E952iv in food regulation, is a synthetic non-nutritive sweetener approximately 30–50 times sweeter than sucrose. It is used across food, beverage, and pharmaceutical manufacturing as a cost-effective sugar substitute. It is often used in combination with other high-intensity sweeteners to achieve a balanced sweetness profile. In beverage and tabletop sweetener production, it is blended with saccharin or acesulfame-K to mask off-notes. This reduces total sweetener cost per unit while maintaining a high quality of taste for the end consumer. Confectionery and bakery manufacturers use it in sugar-free and reduced-calorie product lines. It is preferred where heat stability during processing is a critical formulation requirement for the production line. Pharmaceutical formulators incorporate it as a taste-masking agent in syrups, chewable tablets, and oral suspensions. Palatability in these applications directly affects patient compliance and overall product success. In markets where it holds regulatory approval, it is also used in canned fruit, dairy desserts, and dietetic foods. It serves as a direct sucrose replacement in these various food processing applications. The product is supplied as a white crystalline powder or fine granules. It is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade specifications, with the latter conforming to USP and Ph.Eur. standards. Bulk supply is standard in 25 kg bags for industrial use. Documentation typically includes certificates of analysis aligned to FCC requirements to ensure full compliance with international safety standards.
