Description

Titanium dioxide (CAS 13463-67-7 ), also known as titania and TiO2, is an inorganic white pigment used across coatings, plastics, cosmetics, and food manufacturing. As E171 in food applications, it delivers opacity and brightness that few alternatives can match at comparable cost and stability. In architectural and industrial coatings, TiO2 is the primary opacity-building pigment, determining hiding power and tint strength in paints and primers. Plastics compounders incorporate it to achieve consistent whiteness and UV resistance in films, packaging, and molded components. Personal care formulators rely on it in sunscreens, foundations, and pressed powders where physical UV blocking and skin-tone coverage are both required. In food manufacturing, E171 grade TiO2 is used to whiten confectionery coatings, chewing gum, and tablet coatings. A clean, bright appearance is a product quality standard for many consumer goods. Titanium dioxide is supplied as a fine white powder in two principal crystal forms, rutile and anatase, each suited to different performance requirements across coatings, plastics, and cosmetics. Standard grades include food-grade, cosmetic-grade, and technical-grade, with rutile dominating coatings and plastics applications. Packaging ranges from small bags to bulk quantities, with surface-treated variants available for improved dispersibility in specific media. The material is valued for its high refractive index and chemical inertness. These properties ensure that the pigment remains stable under various processing temperatures and environmental conditions, maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the final product over time.
