Description

Ammonium heptamolybdate (CAS 12027-67-7 ), commonly abbreviated as AHM, is an inorganic molybdenum salt used as a primary source of soluble molybdenum across industrial and agricultural processes. It functions as a catalyst precursor, corrosion inhibitor, and micronutrient source depending on the application sector. In agriculture, AHM is used to formulate molybdenum-based micronutrient fertilizers. These foliar sprays are essential where molybdenum deficiency in soil limits nitrogen fixation in leguminous crops. Catalyst manufacturers use it as a precursor in the production of hydrodesulfurization catalysts. It is also used for selective oxidation catalysts for petroleum refining. In water treatment and industrial cooling systems, it acts as a corrosion inhibitor by forming a protective oxide layer on metal surfaces. This process reduces pipe and equipment degradation. Mining and metal processing operations use AHM in analytical reagent applications, including phosphate and silicate determination in ore and process water testing. Ammonium heptamolybdate is supplied as a white to slightly greenish crystalline powder or granule. Standard commercial grades include technical grade and reagent or analytical grade for high-specification applications. Purity levels typically range from 99% upward. Agricultural and industrial grades are available in bulk packaging, with specifications aligned to customer process requirements and industrial standards.
