In industrial processing, it functions as a surface modifier, lubricant intermediate, and emulsifier across polymer, lubricant, and personal care manufacturing sectors globally. In plastics processing, it is used as a slip agent in polyolefin films. It migrates to the film surface to reduce friction and prevent blocking during high-speed packaging operations. Lubricant formulators use it as a feedstock for erucamide and ester derivatives. These provide boundary lubrication in metalworking fluids and gear oils for heavy industrial use. In personal care, it contributes to emollient and emulsification systems in creams and conditioners. The long-chain fatty acid structure supports texture and spreadability on the skin. It also serves as a chemical intermediate for the production of surfactants, waxes, and specialty coatings. These applications require high carbon-chain functionality for performance.
