Description

Dimethylhexadecylamine (CAS 112-69-6 ), also known commercially as Dimethyl palmitamine, is a long-chain tertiary amine derived from palmitic acid. It functions as a surface-active intermediate and conditioning agent across lubricant and personal care manufacturing. In metalworking and industrial lubricant formulations, it acts as a corrosion inhibitor precursor and lubricity additive. This improves metal surface protection in cutting fluids and rust-preventive coatings during heavy industrial processes. Quaternization of this amine produces cationic surfactants used in fabric softeners, hair conditioners, and rinse-off personal care products. These applications rely on its substantivity to negatively charged surfaces for effective performance. In mineral processing, it serves as a flotation collector for silicate and oxide ores. It selectively modifies mineral surfaces to aid separation, making it a vital component in large-scale mining and extraction operations. Personal care formulators also use it as an emulsification aid and conditioning intermediate in cream and lotion systems. It is particularly effective in targeting hair and skin applications where smooth texture and moisture retention are required. The product is supplied as a liquid or low-melting solid, depending on ambient temperature and purity grade. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with high-purity grades available for specialty chemical synthesis. It is also used for quaternary ammonium salt production and other complex chemical reactions. The material is typically offered in drum and IBC quantities for industrial buyers seeking reliable bulk supply chains. Contact us for supply of Dimethylhexadecylamine Request Quote
