Diethylzinc
Description
Diethylzinc (CAS 557-20-0), commonly abbreviated as DEZ, is a highly pyrophoric organometallic compound used as a zinc precursor in Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) processes for the electronics and solar photovoltaic industries. In PV manufacturing, DEZ is used to deposit zinc oxide (ZnO) transparent conductive layers and anti-reflective coatings on solar cells. In the semiconductor industry, it serves as a dopant source and precursor for ZnO thin film deposition in transparent electronics and gas sensor applications. DEZ is also widely used in the production of zinc-based catalysts for organic synthesis and polymerization reactions. The compound is extremely reactive with air and moisture and requires specialized handling under inert atmosphere with strict safety protocols.
