Hydrogenated sunflower oil
Description
Hydrogenated sunflower oil (CAS 91082-37-0 ), also supplied under the trade name Novadeps U, is produced by catalytic hydrogenation of sunflower oil to convert liquid unsaturated triglycerides into a solid or semi-solid fat. The process raises the melting point and extends shelf stability, making it a functional ingredient where a structured, stable fat matrix is required across food, cosmetics, and industrial applications. In food manufacturing, it functions as a shortening and texturizing agent in bakery products, confectionery coatings, and margarine blends where a defined melting profile is critical to product performance. Cosmetic formulators incorporate it into lip balms, stick formulations, creams, and lotions as an occlusive emollient that contributes body and skin-feel without the greasiness of liquid oils. In solid and semi-solid lubricant formulations, it acts as a base or carrier component where a plant-derived fat with controlled consistency is preferred over mineral alternatives. It also serves as a tablet lubricant and release agent in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical solid-dose manufacturing. The material is supplied as white to off-white flakes, pellets, or solid blocks. Food-grade and cosmetic-grade specifications are the most commonly traded, with food-grade material typically conforming to FCC or regional food additive standards for global distribution.
