Methoxypolyethylene glycols
Description
Methoxypolyethylene glycols ( CAS 9004-74-4 ), commonly abbreviated as MPEG and also marketed as Polyethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether, are mono-end-capped PEG derivatives used across industries as solubilizers, carriers, and surface modifiers. The terminal methoxy group blocks one reactive end, making MPEG the preferred choice when controlled reactivity and steric stabilization are required. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, MPEG serves as a carrier and solubilizer in drug delivery systems. This includes PEGylation of active compounds to extend circulation time and improve bioavailability. Personal care formulators incorporate it into skin creams, serums, and hair conditioners as a humectant and texture modifier. It improves spreadability without tackiness in cosmetic applications. Industrial cleaning formulations use MPEG as a low-foaming surfactant component and coupling agent to stabilize mixed solvent systems effectively. In polymer chemistry, it functions as a macromonomer for grafting onto polyurethane, acrylic, or cement-based systems. This helps to improve dispersion and reduce particle agglomeration in various industrial processes. MPEG is supplied as a waxy solid or viscous liquid depending on molecular weight, with common grades ranging from MPEG 350 to MPEG 5000. Pharmaceutical-grade material is available to USP and Ph. Eur. specifications. Technical-grade product serves polymer and industrial cleaning applications where high purity is still essential. These versatile chemical intermediates provide reliable performance across a wide range of commercial sectors. Contact us for supply of Methoxypolyethylene glycols Request Quote
