Fluorene
Description
Fluorene (CAS 86-73-7 ), also known as o-biphenylenemethane, is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon used as a core building block in the synthesis of advanced organic materials and pharmaceutical intermediates. Its rigid, planar structure makes it a preferred starting material where precise molecular architecture is required in downstream synthesis. In electronics and optoelectronics, it serves as a foundational monomer. Fluorene is used for polyfluorene-based polymers in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic photovoltaic devices. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as an intermediate in the synthesis of active ingredients. The dibenzofuran-adjacent scaffold supports target binding profiles in medicinal chemistry. In specialty polymer production, derived monomers are incorporated into high-performance engineering resins and optical films. These materials are valued for their thermal stability and controlled refractive index. Biotechnology applications include its use as a precursor in fluorescent probe synthesis and labeled reagent development. Fluorene is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline solid or flake. It is available in technical grade for industrial polymer and chemical synthesis applications, as well as in high-purity grades. The high-purity grades (98%–99%+) are suited for pharmaceutical intermediate and electronic material manufacturing. Packaging options typically range from kilogram-scale laboratory quantities to bulk industrial supply. Contact us for supply of Fluorene Request Quote
